Happy 4th of July!

What a great weekend! Sharon, Ambereen and I hit the road early friday morning and drove to Monarch where we had a cabin for the weekend. We had a gorgeous drive through the high country and got to the cabin around 10 am. We dropped off our gear then drove up the pass to a trailhead and hiked a few miles to Water Dog Lake.
Darren, Paula and Steve met us back at the cabin later in the day and we had an incredible meal.
We got up on Saturday and drove to the outfitter on the Arkansas. We were supposed to raft through the Royal Gorge but at lunch we found out the river was running at 2320 CFS - 20 CFS over the limit. Therefore we went back to the morning launch and ran the same route. We had a great time but we were disappointed that we didn't make it through the Gorge. During the first run we saw an empty raft after one of the rapids. We pulled over and loaded two passengers onto our raft. They were on the water without a guide or proper gear. All 5 of our rafts stayed on the shore while the guides worked to pursuade them not to continue. I think if they would have continued there would have been a tragedy.
On the way back we drove to the Royal Gorge so I could see it. It was pretty impressive such that we are planning another trip this season to try the Gorge again. It looked awesome!
Got back in town last night and headed up to Red Rocks to see the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
I'm ready for a day off ;)
